Vixen Chat: Taylour Paige On Her Surreal Life + ‘Hit The Floor’ (2024)

It’s safe to say that we’re big fans of Hit The Floor. Ever since VH1‘s summer series debuted last year on Memorial Day, our inner dancer finally sprung. As the Devil Girls of the scripted drama became our small screen besties, we were automatically drawn toTaylour Paige, who plays the good girl gone bad, Ahsha Hayes. From her gorgeous love interests and impeccable dancing, the daughter of original Devil’s Girl Sloane Hayes (played by Kimberly Elise) easily set the tone for the craziness that ensued during their first season.

Coming back for more, wecaught back up with Ahsha’s real life persona to learn more about the dancer. Anxiously, we tried to grill her on tidbits from the season and as much as she wanted to dish, she’s leaving us in the suspense. But she did share:

“Everyone has something juicy—everyone’s story is connected and everybody’s motive has something to do with another person’s motive.People are going to wow you when things come out this season, I’ll just put it that way.” Luckily for us, we can get a taste of the juice tonight during the premiere.

As you enjoy your Memorial Day and prepare to watch what leap of movements the Devil Girls heat up the dance floor with tonight, check out our Vixen Chat with Ms. Paige.

VIBE Vixen: Were you surprised of the reaction from last season?

Taylour Paige: Yes, the love was unreal. Everyone was so accepting. Now people have created hashtags for Derek and Ahsha, Ahsha and German, Jelena and Terrence, it’s been so unreal to see how people have gravitated towards their favorites. It’s been really cool, my life has really changed. It’s cool because I’ll be somewhere out and people will be like, “Oh my gosh you better not get with that bad boy.” It’s so surreal.

Will fans love or hate you this season?

I think it’s a love/hate because some people find Ahsha really annoying, they’re like if she doesn’t get tougher skin, some people get annoyed because she doesn’t lash back but at the same time, I think they’ll be happy to see how she’s arching into someone stronger and a little bit more self-sufficient and firm. I’m excited to see if they hate this Ahsha or are riding with it.

Which scenes are the hardest to shoot?

It’s always harder when you have emotional screens because you have to think about something sad all day until that’s over and we’re like on a set with so much love and you go from like laughing and talking to having to think about something sad. The sex scenes are awkward and there are rules where it needs to look like you’re doing it but you can’t thrust, it’s hard to go there and your also limited as to what you can do because you don’t want it to be inappropriate to VH1. Also the dancing is unreal and our schedules are so crazy, we don’t really have much time to learn the dance or for all three the actresses to be together when we learn the dance. I had a few episodes where I learned the dance the day or two days before. It’s always hard because you’re exhausted on every level.

Out of all the characters, who will you have the biggest blow up with?

Ohhh I can’t tell you [laughs]. I think everyone will be intrigued with how the relationships are unfolding.

Is it killing you to not say anything?

Oh my gosh, yes! It feels like I’m sitting on a porcupine.

Any celebrities you’d love to make a cameo?

Pharrell. Just him, if I could just hug the man. I mean last year I think there were talks of us having him when we had the sequence where we audition to be in a music video and I probably would’ve passed out. It’s a good thing he didn’t come. If we could have one, I’d pick him for sure.

VV: How’s your relationship?

TP: My relationship’s wonderful, my boyfriend’s really supportive, we review lines together. He listens to me complain when my body hurts and he’s awesome. He’s a special one. I’m really happy.

Have you prepared him for the season?

Yeah, but he doesn’t know the sequence of things that are happening. He’s really honest when something’s good and when something’s bad which I really love. He’s prepared though. He was actually friends with Katherine Bailess beforehand so he watched the show. He’s aware of the role and sex on the show. Plus he knows all the guys now so it’s not a weird thing.

Compared to all the shows out there, what makes your show different from all of the other shows out there?

I think the dance dynamic is huge because we have a lot of professional dancers. On top of that we have a dynamic cast and I don’t feel like the show is specific to any demographic, I feel like there is something for everybody. There is some stuff that is inappropriate for younger kids, but there is dancing, hope, mystery, drama and there’s tons of sex and relationships. There is such a dynamic plot with so many dynamic people. Nobody nor character is the same, nobody looks the same. It’s very dynamic and diverse and that’s what sets this apart.

What was the first time you were fired?

I used to work at this store and I got fired when I actually booked the job on Glee because I had to go film Glee I was a dancer on Glee my manager was like, “Umm this isn’t gonna work so you can come get your last check this week. “I also got fired from Burger Lounge like a week after we got the pilot and I had to leave to go see the screening at MTV and my manager was like, this isn’t gonna work. You cant leave in the middle of the day. But I was like, “You don’t understand.” I was so, so, so broke and we were waiting to find out if we got picked up and I had just gotten out of college so I was like what am I gonna do? Like if this doesn’t get picked up, I’m screwed.

When was the first time you had a real Stan moment with someone?

I’ve had a few encounters. At a restaurant this women that was like, “Oh my god, oh my god can we take a picture with you? My son said not to but I just had to. You my favorite Devils Girl!”

What’s the first time you heard something crazy about yourself?

I don’t know. I try not to read the stuff online because it’s so hurtful and stuff. There was somebody that said I was messing up my genetics by dating my boyfriend because he’s not black. It was an interesting thing to read. I had rumors about dating different people or whatever.

First time you bombed an interview or audition?

When I was like 16, I went into the head of Disney and I hadn’t taken acting class really at all and I didn’t know what I was doing and it was really embarrassing. Of course, you think Disney wants over the top and funny and I was just trying to be over the top and funny and it just wasn’t working and that was the worst. I was like, “Okay I’m never going to be an actress. This sucks.”
